Visit the Raeburn Exhibition at Kirkcudbright Galleries.

Eye to Eye: Sir Henry Raeburn’s Portraits showing until 29th September 2024 at Gallery Two, Kirkcudbright Galleries.

Kirkcudbright Galleries are delighted to present ‘Eye to Eye: Sir Henry Raeburn’s Portraits.’ Sir Henry Raeburn (1756-1823), widely recognised as Scotland’s foremost and finest portrait painter, takes his place in the pantheon of the very best in the acclaimed tradition of British portraiture.  His portraits are as admired as those by Allan Ramsay, Thomas Gainsborough, Joshua Reynolds, George Romney, and Thomas Lawrence.

From about 1000 known works, painted in his most prolific years from c.1780 to his death, Raeburn is celebrated particularly for his paintings of men. This exhibition will challenge that premise and show characterful paintings of women and examples from his very fine work illustrating children.

This exhibition is open during Kirkcudbright Galleries Summer Hours.

Monday – Saturday: 10am – 5pm, Sundays: 11:30-5pm.
(Last entry to major exhibition at 4:45pm).

This exhibition is part funded by the Robin Rigg Community Fund.
