Unexploded Ordnance and What To Do About it

Many areas of the UK including the Solway coast have been left with a legacy of Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) contamination.  This was either as a result of bombing during the two World Wars or as a result of current / historic military activity.  The posters below, produced by 1st Line Defence provide information on what you could come across when you’re on the Solway shores.

                   

IF YOU FIND A SUSPICIOUS ITEM:
• Assume it is live and dangerous
• Stop work immediately
• Shut down any nearby machinery if safe to do so
• Evacuate all personnel away from the item preferably ideally 100m
• Inform your Line Manager immediately

BE AWARE OF:
• The First Aid arrangements
• The emergency services contact numbers
• Who to inform of the suspicious object
