Kirkcudbright Bay Bioblitz Final Species Count!

Kirkcudbright Bay Bioblitz Final Species Count!

The Kirkcudbright Bay Wildlife Weekend, held in partnership with Solway Firth Partnership and supported by the Galloway Glens Landscape Partnership, took place on 4th and 5th June.

It resulted in 866 records of 447 species.

Family-friendly wildlife activities at Nun Mill Bay (The Doon) on the Saturday were followed by a wildlife recording day at nearby Balmangan Farm on the Sunday. Highlights included the first Kirkcudbrightshire record for Great Duckweed Spirodela polyrhiza, the locally uncommon Knotted Clover Trifolium striatum, and a Treble Lines moth Charanyca trigrammic, which in Scotland is restricted to the Kirkcudbright-Gatehouse area. In addition, several beetles and spiders were found that are uncommon in Scotland.

A big thanks to the Galloway Glens Landscape Partnership for the funding to allow this event to take place. More about Galloway Glens here
