Join Solway Coastwise on Spring Walks and Archaeology Visits

Solway Coastwise are going to be out and about along the Solway Coast this spring!  Why not join them and find out more about your local coastal area. Or if you’ve always wanted to know about your local archaeology come along and meet the SCAPE coastal archaeologists.

All the events are FREE but booking is essential. See details below.

Guided Walks led by Solway Coastwise

Saturday 6 April – Ardwell Bay on the west coast of the Rhins. Parking at the end of a farm track. An easy afternoon walk on sand / grass and shingle. Guided walk to find out about cave dwellers and ship wrecks.

Wednesday 17 April – Back Bay Monreith. Parking beyond the golf course. An easy and short afternoon walk mostly on sand.  A guided walk to visit stunning cliffs and caves.

Thursday 18 April – Carsethorn. An easy afternoon walk along a shingle shore. A guided walk to discover history and geology.

Friday 19 April – Port Logan. A challenging afternoon walk across rough grassland and shingle involving some steep slopes and scrambling over rocks. A guided walk over rugged terrain to explore the coast north of Port Logan.

Guided walk / archaeological recording events led by coastal archaeologists from SCAPE

Saturday 13 April –  Balcary. Guided late morning / afternoon walk with archaeologists to search for saltpans and mines. Meet at Balcary.

Sunday 14 April – Auchencairn. Discover how historical remains are recorded on a visit to the coast with archaeologists. Meet late morning at Auchencairn and then on to the shore for some recording / photography / sketching / drone etc.

All the above events are FREE but booking is essential.

Sunday 7 April, 2.00pm to 4.00pm at Auchencairn village hall – all welcome, just turn up.

Tuesday 23 April, 6.00pm to 8.00pm at Barbour Memorial Hall, Glencaple – all welcome, just turn up.
