Celebrate our coast on World Ocean Day at Port Logan

Celebrate our coast on World Ocean Day at Port Logan.

Port Logan Beach, Port Logan 12.00 noon to 3.00pm on Saturday 8th June

Join Solway Firth Partnership to celebrate our stunning coastline on World Ocean Day and have fun discovering seaside wildlife.

World Ocean Day is an opportunity to celebrate the Rhins of Galloway Coast Path, made possible by support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Dumfries and Galloway Council, and enjoy a visit to a beach by taking part in action for our ocean and climate.

Join us on a beach clean at noon to help remove plastic pollution and make the environment better for wildlife and people. Solway Firth Partnership will also explain where litter comes from and what happens to it once it has been gathered by volunteers.

The Freelance Ranger will lead activities for young and old on the beach including beach art and the popular seashell necklace making.

Experts will also be there to help identify seashells, seaweeds and other seashore finds. South West Scotland Environmental Information Centre will lead guided short walks to reveal coastal wildlife that has adapted to live on the beach as well as offering free technical support on how to use the iNaturalist app for wildlife recording.

Nic Coombey, Solway Firth Partnership Project Officer, said: “World Ocean Day provides an opportunity to discover our seashore made easier to access with the Rhins of Galloway Coast Path. By combining a beach clean with discovering wildlife we hope to inspire people to make changes in their everyday lives to prevent plastic pollution and help with solutions as well as being fun for all the family.”
