The Crannog Project Development Opportunity

The Crannog Project Development Opportunity.

Castle Douglas Development Forum  (CDDF) seeks to commission an experienced professional from 1st September 2024 to 31st  March 2025 to manage their Crannog Project.

Location: Castle Douglas Fee: £20,000 (inclusive of VAT)

The Crannog Project

CDDF was granted a 25 year lease, by community asset transfer, for  Carlingwark Outdoor Activity Centre in Lochside park from Dumfries and Galloway Council in June 2023. They are currently operating community activities in some spaces within building; but there are spaces that currently are not fit for use.

Their vision is to transform the building to create a community resource and centre for sustainability. The building will provide an open-access space for local users and groups; but also, on a regional and national level, become a hub for discussions and thinking on various environmental considerations – biodiversity, active travel, energy use, retrofit, renewables and climate change. To that end they have been working closely with a design team led by Dress For The Weather and have reached the end of RIBA stage 2.

The successful candidate will ensure effective communication, coordination, and oversight of the next stage of the Crannog project, representing the charity’s interests throughout this next design development phase.

This  commission will assist CDDF to identify the transformational outcomes and benefits of this project to the community, assist with grant applications for fund-raising and transition the design of the building from RIBA stage 2  to the end of RIBA Stage 3.

The successful applicant is likely to have been educated to graduate level with around  5 years’ experience in project management, client representation, or a related role in the construction or design industry.

They will have demonstrable commitment to sustainability and achieving carbon neutrality.

The successful applicant will be expected to spend at least 3 days in each month working at the Crannog site, Lochside park, Castle Douglas.

Preference will be given to candidates with strong links to Dumfries and Galloway.

Application Process: Candidates will submit their resume, a cover letter outlining their relevant experience, and two references to Carolyn Yates, CDDF Chairperson, by midnight 29th July 2024.

Interviews will be held on Thursday 2nd  August.
