Dumfriesshire and Galloway Natural History and Antiquarian Society – Young Researcher Competition 2025.
Take part in a competition for students in years S4, S5, S6 (or recent school leavers) who have not yet started higher education.
The competition runs annually from the end of the summer term until 31st October.
If you are a student, can you produce an original research paper of between 1,500-2,500 words on any topic relating to the human history or natural environment of Dumfries and Galloway? Give it a go! You could write something on the Solway coast or carry out a small survey of one aspect of coastal wildlife – by looking at beach shells or egg cases for example.
Other examples could be to research the career of a local historical figure, the history of a significant local building or monument, a study (perhaps a census) of local wildlife, or the importance of an exhibit in one of the region’s museums. This is only a guide and is by no means meant to restrict choice.
The competition offers a prize of £250 for the winning entry. In addition to this, the winning research paper will be published on the Society’s website.
Full details of the competition, together with terms and conditions, are available on the Society’s website: https://dgnhas.org.uk
