Crown Estate Scotland Policy Officer Vacancy

Crown Estate Scotland now has a vacancy for a Policy Officer.

Join the Crown Estate Scotland (CES) policy team to provide support across a range of projects and workstreams including grant-making, coordinating research, policy development, statutory assessments and working with our new Children and Young People’s Forum.

The successful candidate will have the chance to work on offshore wind, coastal regeneration, community initiatives, natural capital projects and more.

CES has an exciting opportunity for a Policy Officer to join the team on a full-time permanent basis.

About the role
The successful candidate for this new role will work an exciting range of projects and activities such as:
• Policy consultations;
• CES Sustainable Communities Fund;
• Biodiversity reporting and climate change reporting;
• Marine natural capital;
• Marine planning;
• Qualitative and qualitative stakeholder research;
• Assessments such as Islands Communities Impact, Strategic Environmental, Equality Impact;
• Helping coordinate implementation of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion plan; and
• CES’s new Children and Young People’s Forum.
• The contractual working location of this role is the CES Edinburgh office. However, there will be the opportunity to request to work flexibly in line with Crown Estate Scotland policies and practices.

There will be a requirement for occasional off-site meetings and trips to different parts of the Estate (e.g. rural areas, coastal locations etc).

The starting salary will be £30,993 with potential for future progression as well as eligibility of annual cost of living rises. The maximum salary for this role is currently £37,817. The role also benefits from 25 days’ annual leave, increasing to 30 days after four years’ service, plus 11.5 of public/privilege days. Crown Estate Scotland encourage flexible working and operate a discretionary flexi-time scheme. This role offers participation in the Civil Service pension scheme.

About You
Candidates for this role should:

  • Hold a qualification in a relevant subject (e.g. sustainable development).
  • Have IEMA graduate membership or appropriate accreditation, plus evidence of CPD.
  • Knowledge of sustainable development – including social impact / value – in relation to land, property and / or marine assets.
  • Understand the fundamentals of good project management.
  • Have excellent written communication skills with the ability to clear and succinctly summarise complex documents, prepare briefings, presentations etc.
  • Be able to review, edit and critique reports that contain qualitative and quantitative information.
  • Be able to build and maintain relationships – and to engage effectively with internal and external contacts.

You will have the following qualities, which are key to success in this role:

  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Be able to work well under pressure and deliver tight deadlines.
  • Be proactive and adopt an inquisitive approach to work.
  • Confidence in using Microsoft Office products (such as Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Sharepoint, MS Teams).
