Making the Most of the Coast
Over two years the Making the Most of the Coast project encouraged people to actively care for and discover more about the Dumfries and Galloway coastline. The project provided great opportunities to get involved with Scotland’s south coast by engaging in volunteering tasks, joining in events or reading the new publications. While working with a large number of partners, Making the Most of the Coast facilitated research, learning, awareness raising campaigns and promotion.
Now that the project has come to an end, the Making the Most of the Coast team, Coastal Ranger Nic Coombey with support from Alison Robertson, are proud to have achieved so much.
Some of their achievenments include:
- Engagement with 28 education providers and over 2,500 individuals.
- Generation of over £10,000 in volunteer time.
- Organisation of 39 beach clean events.
- Partnership work with 31 groups, organisations and businesses.
- Published features in 33 coast promotions.
One thing is for sure, our varied coastline from the merse (salt marsh) in the east to the rugged cliffs in the west is worth celebrating.
