Rockcliffe BioBlitz on World Oceans Day, Sunday 8 June.
Join us for 24 hours of wildlife recording on the beach and in the woods and meadows around Rockcliffe near Dalbeattie. The event starts with Dumfries and Galloway Bat Group leading a Bat Walk on the Saturday night (7June) where booking is essential on 07447 917 517.
Sunday 8 June begins with a Dawn Chorus walk (again, booking essential on 07447 917 517). To join in the rest of the BioBlitz, just turn up at Rockcliffe beach from 10.00am onwards – everyone welcome! - and either join a guided walk (leaving hourly on the hour) or take a recording form and do your own thing. The aim is to record as many different species as possible in 24 hours, be it a flower, butterfly, sea shell … anything you can’t identify, photograph it or bring it back to the centre and our experts will try to help.
This free event is organised by the Solway Firth Partnership “Making the Most of the Coast” project in partnership with National Trust for Scotland, D&G Environmental Resources Centre and the D&G Council Ranger Service. See website for more details.
Please park in the car park on the left as you enter the village (Grid Ref NX851535, postcode DG5 4QH).

Solway Tweed River Basin District Public Consultation
A public consultation is being carried out to provide the public with the opportunity to contribute to the development of new approaches for the water management challenges for the Solway Tweed river basin district. The consultation is set in the context of an update on the condition of the water environment and progress on delivering the first management plan published in 2009 which set targets for water management for 2015 and beyond.
The information and analyses presented in the document support the development of the second river basin plan to be published in 2015. Public views are being sought and ideas for making the step change required to meet these key challenges.

Young e-Citizens for a Sustainable European Coastline
Last year a group of 24 volunteers from 4 European partner countries – UK, France, Italy and Greece worked together to coordinate a web-based promotion of the European coastline, showcasing examples of good practice in sustainable development. A campus was held on the Solway where participants looked at specific coastal issues and opportunities in the region and then produced three films to highlight issues and positive action.
Participants from the campus along with Solway Firth Partnership representatives will meet up on the Côte Bleue in the South of France in June to evaluate the project and look at future collaboration between Europe's young people to ensure a sustainable European coastline.
