Happy Christmas - Highlights 2015

SFP is looking back at a successful year of projects. Highlights included the Out of the Blue Project which brought out a series of 'Fishy' publications and was represented at the Environmental Arts Festival. The Loch Ryan project published an easy to use guide to 'Great Places to visit around Loch Ryan' along with other interpretation improvements on site.

We also want to thank everyone who attended our AGM 2015 at Tullie House, Carlisle and everyone who has shown their support throughout the year. All the staff at SFP wish you a happy Christmas and a good start to the new year.

Fisheries Data Projects

The need for improved inshore fisheries data is widely recognised to enable the sector to be accurately represented in marine planning and to ensure its management is sustainable.

A series of projects exploring ways of addressing this ran between summer 2014 and autumn 2015.  The summary reports of this work, collectively titled ‘Evidence Gathering In Support of Sustainable Scottish Inshore Fisheries’, have recently been produced.  More information can be found here

More details of the overall package of data collection projects, which were funded by the European Fisheries Fund and managed by the Marine Alliance for Science and Technology for Scotland (MASTS), can be found here.

Inshore Fisheries Conference Proceedings

The third Scottish Inshore Fisheries Conference was held on Friday 9 October 2015 at Eden Court in Inverness and a summary of the proceedings of the event is now available here.

Richard Lochhead MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Food and the Environment, launched the conference and delegates attended workshops/sessions on a variety of subjects as well as visiting stands from a range of organisations including MASTS, fishing federations, Seafish, Marine Scotland, Solway Firth Partnership and others.
