Draft National Marine Plan laid before Scottish Parliament

News for December 2014

Draft National Marine Plan Laid Before Scottish Parliament

The draft national Marine Plan was laid before the Scottish Parliament on 11 December.

A new webpage will be hosted on the Scottish Government website to make the wide variety of material available related to marine planning easier to access, and more user friendly.  This will be known as “NMP Online” and will bring together and provide links to key documents for the National Marine Plan and other supporting  documents.

The Rural Affairs, Climate Change and Environment Committee (RACCE) will be scrutinising the draft plan and it will refer to the written responses received by the Scottish Government during its recent consultation.

The deadline for any additional written evidence for RACCE Committee’s consideration is 12 noon, Monday 5 January 2015.

Further Protection for Spring Salmon

A Conservation order has been laid in parliament to protect early-running spring salmon through mandatory catch and release measures.

The measures, which come into force before the start of the 2015 season and will run for five years, have been introduced following the statutory 28 day consultation which concluded earlier this month. They have been designed to protect the currently low levels of spring salmon in Scotland.

Solway Chosen as Case Study for Celtic Seas Partnership Project

The Solway has been chosen as a case study by the Celtic Seas Partnership Project as a good example of cross-border governance in the Celtic Seas area.  It has been chosen to look at how the co-location/sectoral interaction/transboundary challenges are being addressed with special reference to the role that Solway Firth Partnership plays.
