Draft Solway AONB Management Plan

Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is about to launch its Draft Management Plan 2015-2020.

Every five years, it is necessary to review and re-publish the Statutory Management Plan for the Solway Coast AONB. The duty to do this is placed jointly on Cumbria County Council, Allerdale Borough Council and Carlisle City Council, but it is discharged on their behalf by the Solway  Coast AONB Partnership.

The AONB Management Plan is a statutory plan which sets out a Vision for the next 20 years. It describes the broad range of issues faced in the area and how they will be managed to conserve and enhance the area for future generations.

The aims of the Management Plan, which reflect the AONB purposes, are to:

Conserve and enhance Natural Beauty through securing the natural and cultural heritage of UK’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, ensuring they can meet the challenges of the future.

The Plan must be reviewed within five years of its original publication and at similar intervals thereafter. In addition the CRoW Act also places a duty on public bodies and others, to have regard to the special purposes of the AONB designation when carrying out their work.

This questionnaire is to comment on the new Solway Coast AONB Draft Management Plan, 2015-2020.

The consultation runs from December 15th 2014 – February 6th 2015.  More information can be found here
