New Beach Guide for the Scottish Solway Coast

Solway Coastwise has published a new beach guide for visitors who want to discover the Dumfries and Galloway shoreline and discover the stories behind coastal place names.

As well as providing information on the sandy bathing beaches that many people seek for a summer family outing the new beach guide also identifies stretches of coastline that will appeal to the more adventurous explorer.

Copies of the Beach Guide can be picked up at Tourist Information Centres and Libraries but you can find out more and download your electronic copy by clicking here

Celebrating Caerlaverock NNR's 60th - Saturday 15 July

The Scottish Natural Heritage NNR team and others are celebrating Caerlaverock National Nature Reserve's 60th year.

The public are invited to take part, between 11.00am and 5.00pm, in the free activities and find out about the history of this special place and the work carried out with others.

Join a foraging walk with Mark Williams on the NNR. Try out free high quality food including wildfowl, fish and venison at the Barbour Hall. All food will be sustainably harvested or hunted. Enjoy nature and your surrounding in a whole new light with Artist Kenny Bean. Craft activities for kids will also be available all day.

Byelaw 3 (Permit to Fish for Cockles and Mussels) Stakeholder Consultation – Now Open

NWIFCA are reviewing Byelaw 3 (Permit to Fish for Cockles and Mussels) and are conducting an informal consultation with all stakeholders on the management measures to be included in the new byelaw.

Subject to consultation it is the IFCA’s intention that the new byelaw will regulate hand gathering of cockles and mussels across the district and will include a flexible permit scheme and the regulation of those buying cockles.

The deadline for stakeholder input is the 2nd July 2017.
