The Solway Firth is a very special and important place for birds. As one of the biggest areas of intertidal habitats in the UK it supports nationally and internationally protected populations of waterbirds, over 100,000 of which come here in winter to feed and rest. Many have come thousands of miles to be here!
Natural England commissioned and funded Solway Firth Partnership to develop and produce this new booklet. It highlights some of the birds that you might be lucky enough to see on the Solway Coast along with advice on how to avoid disturbing feeding flocks. Once disturbed, birds can take a long time to settle back down to feeding and resting and this uses up vital energy reserves which can decrease their chance of survival.
The great images of key bird species will help with identification and a map will point visitors towards locations to bird watch.
The booklet is currently available in digital format. Download a copy by visiting the Solway Firth Partnership publications
