Kippford RNLI is hosting a Virtual Open Week this year. The event will run from Monday 27 July to Sunday 2 August. This is in place of the usual station open day which has sadly had to be cancelled due to the pandemic.
There has been a lifeboat station at Kippford since 1966 and the annual open day is usually a highlight for visitors and locals. Last year included attendance of boats from neighbouring stations with the crews delighting the crowds with a display of speed and manoeuvrability.
This year things are a little different and the crew at Kippford hope that people will support their online efforts. This will include activities for children, a photo competition, a live quiz, a chance to find out more about the crew and a virtual tour of the station.
Kippford Lifeboat Operations Manager, Gareth Jones, said “The open day is usually one of our busiest days of the year for fundraising and highlighting the work of the RNLI so we were all disappointed that it couldn’t go ahead. I’m really pleased that we are able to host a virtual open week instead and look forward to the chance to share some of our stories with the public who support us.”
