Consultation on Prohibition of Fishing Activity in Allonby Bay HPMA

Consultation on Prohibition of Fishing Activity in Allonby Bay HPMA.

The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is consulting on a proposed byelaw to prohibit fishing activity to protect and allow full recovery of all species and habitats and associated ecosystem processes in the Allonby Bay Highly Protected Marine Area.

The proposed byelaw also requires that vessels present within the specified areas must have all fishing gear inboard, lashed and stowed.

Finally, the proposed byelaw will also amend the proposed draft MMO “Marine Protected Areas Bottom Towed Fishing Gear Byelaw 2023” particularly the specified area detailed in schedule 10. This is to avoid overlap and dual regulation of bottom towed gears in other designated sites.

Formal consultation on the proposed byelaw will run from 3 August 2023 to 14 September 2023.
