Consultation on New National Parks in Scotland.
The Scottish Government has committed to designating at least one new National Park in Scotland by the end of this Parliamentary session in 2026.
There’s still time to consider whether your local area in Scotland could be designated as the country’s newest national park.
The consultation is currently open but will close on Friday 4 August.
If any groups, communities, associations or even individuals are interested in the idea of a Coastal and Marine National Park in their area, all that is needed at this stage is an email to the National Park team at – NationalParks@gov.scot.
This only needs to include wording to say that you ‘might be interested’, It doesn’t commit you to submitting a bid / nomination, but allows Nature Scot / Government to understand where the interest is and where additional support might be required.
The Blue Marine Foundation are supporting those who are thinking of nominating their area and they are hopeful that the next National Park will include a coastal and marine element.
