Company Structure
Trustees
Solway Firth Partnership (SFP) is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status. It is managed by a board of Trustees who are responsible for the SFP and make decisions regarding its management and operation.
Advisory Group
The Project Manager and the Board are advised by an Advisory Group drawn from members of the Partnership. It is also the main forum by which those bodies with statutory roles with regard to the management of the Solway meet to discuss issues and agree actions.
Membership of SFP is open to all and bodies can apply directly to the SFP if they wish to become members and sit on the Advisory Group. The Advisory Group meets four times a year, with minutes from the most recent meetings made available in the download section of this website. The bodies currently represented on the Advisory Group include: Allerdale Borough Council, Carlisle City Council, Natural England, Scottish Natural Heritage, Marine and Fisheries Agency, Solway Coast AONB, Scottish Water, Nith District Fisheries Board, Annan District Fisheries Board, The Crown Estate, Cumbria Sea Fisheries Committee, Cumbria County Council, Dumfries & Galloway Council, Copeland Borough Council, Scottish Environmental Protection Agency, Associated British Ports, Scottish Coastal Forum, Environment Agency and Scottish Enterprise.
Working Group
The Working Group is a subset of the Advisory Group that meets independently to offer more day to day advice to the SFP Secretariat or to consider specific issues delegated by the Advisory Group or Board of Trustees. The Working Group is made up of representatives from Allerdale Borough Council, Carlisle City Council, Natural England, Scottish Natural Heritage, Dumfries & Galloway Council and the Environment Agency.
Secretariat
Currently Solway Firth Partnership employs a Project Manager and Administrator, who are based in its Head office within the Crichton Estate in Dumfries.
Conference
SFP holds an annual conference each year, normally in conjunction with its AGM. The conference usually consists of a variety of topical presentations and workshops on themes of relevance to the work of SFP and the Solway. For more information please see our Diary Dates and Downloads pages.
Business Plan and Strategy
The operations of SFP is primarily shaped by the Key deliverables listed in its Business Plan which is its operational mandate.
SFP produced a firth-wide strategy through considerable consultation in 1998, actions from this now feed into the SFP Business Plan.
Mailing List and News Letter
SFP has an extensive mailing list which is free to join. SFP sends its newsletter ‘Tidelines’ and notification of events around the Solway via its postal/electronic mailing list. ‘Tidelines’ is free to all and contains a variety of articles of interest, plus a list of events and activities taking place around the Solway.
