While national marine planning sets the wider context for planning within Scotland, regional marine planning will allow more local ownership and decision making about the specific issues in local areas.  Considerable consultation on establishment of these local Scottish Marine Regions has taken place in recent years.  The Scottish Marine Regions Order 2014 establishing the boundaries for local marine planning will be laid in Parliament early in 2014 with the Order likely to come into force later this year.  The Consultation Report on the Scottish Marine Regions Order 2013 is now available online.
