Stranraer to host Skiffieworlds 2019!

Stranraer St Ayles Skiff Project (supported by Stranraer Water Sports Association and Stranraer Rotary ) have been selected to host the international coastal rowing event - Skiffieworlds 2019.

July 2019 will see a week long event bringing crowds of people and immense economic benefits to Stranraer.  Over 1000 competitors , some from as far away as the United States, Austrailia, New Zealand and Europe , and up to 75 boats, are expected to participate in these World Championships for the St Ayles Skiff class of coastal rowing boat. Stranraer will be the place to be!

The event will feature 22ft traditional styled wooden St Ayles Skiffs, rowed by teams of four people plus cox. Each boat has its own colours and names that are evocative of their home-places. The building of them has brought people together from all walks of life and of all ages. They symbolise the bonds that have been forged between people within communities and now through competition that binds coastal people the world over.

All partners will work hard to make this a fantastic opportunity for Stranraer. There will be lots to do between now and 2019 to ensure the event is a success! Stranraer St Ayles Skiff Project hope they can rely on public support to put together a memorable event for locals and visitors and offer safe, exciting and enjoyable racing and a chance to enjoy the beauty that is Loch Ryan and the wider area.
