Nithraid 2017


The annual Nithraid will take place on Saturday 9 Sept.

 

Nithraid is a community-led River Festival beside and on Dumfries’ River Nith. Starting off with a sailing race upriver on the highest tide of the year, the race finish line is below the caul in the centre of Dumfries, where the Salty Coo awaits the arrival of the boats from the centre of the River Nith.

Nithraid Schedule:

11am: Gather at the Steamboat Inn, Carsethorn. Race starts at approx 11.30am
12noon: Salty Coo Procession leaves Fountain Square (High Street) – get yer Viking on!
12-5pm: Nithraid Village on the Mill Green
12.30pm: Salty Coo Procession Arrives at Mill Green
1pm: Viking Combat Display
2.30pm: High Tide – the first boats are expected to finish at around this time
3.45pm: Cargo distribution amongst Vikings (with possible fights..!)
4.45pm: Salty Coo dunking in the Nith – bring something that makes a noise
5-7pm: Changeover to evening set-up, check out the town and come back for…
7pm: Nithraid Nighttime – Music, visuals, storytelling, food, campfires!
