Coastwise Beaches

Remember those summer days at beaches on Scotland’s south coast?

Next year there will be even more reason to explore the long and varied coastline of Dumfries and Galloway when the Solway Coastwise project launch a new publication revealing the stories behind place-names.

The guide will help visitors find those sandy bathing beaches which are so popular for a summer family outing but will also introduce the rugged cliffs and rocky outcrops where every place has a story to tell. There are hidden caves and remote bays where there are numerous fascinating facts or tall tales of ship wrecks, daring smugglers and naval skirmishes.

The publication will be available in the spring of 2017 but in the meantime if you know of any salty tales on the Solway please let us know.
