Cockle news

The Solway Firth Partnership commissioned Cockle Fishery Review of Management Study has recently been completed.

The study was carried out by independent consultants, Tristan Southall and Dr Oliver Tully, and complements other work currently underway to inform development of sustainable future management of the fishery. The report notes the potential for a Solway cockle fishery which provides important local employment without adversely affecting the conservation value of the area. A presentation on the final report was provided recently to a range of stakeholders and received positive feedback. The work was funded by the Dumfries and Galloway Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG) under the European Fisheries Fund Axis 4 programme and Marine Scotland.
