Western HVDC Link: Installation Update

Mariners will recall that the Western HVDC cable is being installed between the Firth of Clyde in Scotland and Leasowe on the Wirral, running down through the North Channel, then to the west and south of the Isle of Man.

The first offshore installation campaign (Campaign 1) was terminated in December 2015.  This campaign was hit hard by the bad weather during the autumn and early part of the winter.  Campaign 2 is about to begin, and in order to minimise the risk of further disruption to the installation schedule, this campaign is starting further north (at a location between the Isle of Man and Northern Ireland), running up to the mouth of the Firth of Clyde.  This work is expected to take place between late February and early April 2016.

A Notice to Mariners has been prepared to describe Campaign 2 and can be accessed here. The Notice includes information about the cable route, the extent of Campaign 2, and also the installation methodology.
